we're happy, free, confused and lonely in the best way

I know this is completely un-fashion related... but I'll try to make this as relevant as possible.

I've been really re-evaluating my friendships lately and I'm so forever-grateful for the ones who have put up with my shenanigans this year. The older I get, the more I realize how important my friendships are. With my friends, I really feel like I can do no wrong - You know who you are, and I love you all so much!

My friends are always the ones I have to harass to take photos for my "outfit of the days", my living tripod when I lack one... and they somehow still put up with me which is almost unbelievable.

I realized that I haven't posted a lot with other people. Due to my lack of blogger connections, I don't collaborate often either. My housemate bestie, Shima volunteered to be in a blog post with me! Fun, offbeat photo shoots are such a fun way to express yourself. Being a blogger, I always have to make due with my surroundings and figure out how to get the best shot... I always like to blog against a blank wall (preferably white) and then put my camera on a high speed shutter function.

Hats - Tricolour Outlet, Queen's University

Mittens: DeLux, Hat, Urban Outfitters - My Scarf - Club Monaco

On me: Tank dress - Aritzia, Shorts - Hollister On Shima: Shorts - American Eagle

I'm really happy with the way these turned out. It's fun to wear a basic outfit (ours was tank tops and jean shorts)!

Fave song at the moment - 22 by Taylor Swift - pretty much the theme of this photoshoot

"It feels like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters, and make fun of our exes"

PS. Just heard word that we got tickets for Taylor Swift!! I'm so excited beyond words. She's my fave.

I ALWAYS end up having more costumes than there is to celebrate- I LOVE dressing up and Halloween. So in order to have fun in all of them, I decided to do more halloween posts....

I heard that you like the bad girls...

I have been absolutely obsessed with Lana Del Rey, especially these floral headbands that she's been sporting in tons of photos that I've seen on tumblr. I decided to make my own wit ha few fake flowers and a ribbon! I love this look, but it's a bit too subtle for Halloween.

Another option...

Little Red Riding Hood has been a fave of mine as well, and I decided to take a red cape from my childhood and cut the bottom, creating a hood on the top. I love the way it turned out! I used a men's pirate costume shirt from a while back, and I love the idea of reusing old costumes and creating new ones.  Here it is below:

What big hands you have!

Still haven't revealed my final Halloween Costume... What will you be?

I bought this bodysuit at American Apparel bodysuit thinking it would be a good investment in my "going out at night" wardrobe, but I was very wrong! Turns out, I only wore it out at night once and have been extremely hesitant to repeat due to risking a wardrobe malfunction. Figured however, that it would be a great addition to a simple halloween costume.  Being a cat is unoriginal, but

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and I love the idea of being something/someone else for the day.

ALSO... got the new Taylor Swift Album!! Here are my fave tracks:

I Almost Do - my FAVE song on the album, especially will all the messed up events in my life at the moment
22 - a good anthem, and a good morning song to get ready to!

"Hey you called me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest"

everything is RED

ALSO - I have been very obsessed with instagram so don't hesitate to follow me @rachspeed!

Happy Halloween everyone!!

it's the little things... (my bedroom!)

Saturday, September 29, 2012

I've been super hyped on DIY ideas for my room. I live in student housing in my little college town - and is referred to often as the "student ghetto" - for GOOD reason. When we moved in, the walls were dingy... things were falling apart - and I took it upon myself to fix up my little misfit bedroom. The walls are slightly crooked and everything is a little wonky - but I love it nonetheless.

What I wanted for my room was to make it a little cottage, and mix some eclectic and shabby-chic details along with it.

PROJECT 1 - Bulletin Board

I love bulletin boards, inspiration boards... vision boards - it all makes me super motivated and its a lovely way to display photos ... reminders, etc. I bought a bulletin board at Stapes

I purchased this spray paint to make my bulletin board white, but it was a gigantic failure. The spray paint sinks right into the cork - making barely any of a difference.

My bulletin board! (Purchased at Staples Business Depot)

After my big failure spray painting...

I royally gave up on my spray paint idea, and I ended up painting the bulletin board with a small tub of paint from Home Depot - It's for furniture and trimmings - a high gloss white - "Cloud White" by Benjamin Moore, to be exact.

My desk!

I was so excited to put everything together, and I added some colour and touches through my photograph choices and putting my beautiful new watercolour pencil crayons on display, as well as some fun post its and erasers.

I LOVE white...

Just the little things....

PROJECT 2: CHEVRON closet...

My closet was probably the dreariest part of my room. It was dingy, and does not have a door to conceal it, so I wanted to spruce it up by doing a small fun DIY project.

The before (pictured above). It's dreary ... very scary!!!

The process was very tedious. I used masking tape to cover the walls in a zig zag like pattern, then used a blue paint I got at an art store. I wanted a gray - blue neutral.

The paint I used. I bought foam rollers at the dollar store. It took me about two of these small bottles for the wall (and two coats). It was fast, and dried pretty speedy as well!

I still need to do a few touch ups due to the dripping, but it's already made a world of a difference in my room. It brings some style!!

Anywhoo, those are the two projects I spent my Friday night doing, but well worth it...

Here are some other parts of my room!

My humble abode...

My sheets were purchased at Anthropologie... So cozy

Some of my favorite reads sitting on a seating pouf which was purchased at Home Sense

Currently burning - "Volcano" candle, purchased at Anthropologie - it's my fave scent right now!

As for a room tour goes, once my room is finally complete - I'll be filming one shortly!

Finally and able to relax and enjoy...

settled, finalement

Monday, September 24, 2012

It's been about an eternity since I've written last... and I am happily finally settled into my little college house in my lovely student ghetto. The walls in my room are painted "Cloud White" by Benjimen Moore, making it the perfect backdrop for future videos and blog posts.

Lately, I've been absolutely obsessed with these american apparel crop tops - very "Miley" of me to try to pull one off - they're not too bad in price and go great with high waisted skirts and shorts.

I'm in love with this shirt, bought it on a day where I just felt downright crummy - it instantly brightened my day. A great find from Aritzia. I bought it oversized, as per usual when it goes to all t-shirt purchases of mine.

I changed my room up this year and went for a much more "shabby chic" vibe - here ya go!

To another year,

xo Rach

Long time no post.... I'm finally settled back at home (2 months later, I know, I'm a sloth) and I'm ready to get back into the swing of things! I am just finishing up my trip in Chicago with the fam - and I had so much fun here! Way too much shopping but I'm very happy with all the things that I purchased... which I hope I will do a video on soon. Anywhoo....
