HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2014: $50 & Under!

Monday, December 15, 2014

Hi everyone! I'm back with the latest instalment of my Holiday Gift Guide series. Check out my picks for gifts that are $50 and under!

1. Rebecca Minkoff Studded Wallet on a Chain, $48.00: One of my must-haves for going out this season is definite a wallet on a chain (WOC). This Rebecca Minkoff one is great; it has a little edge but still extremely practical. For during the day, you can take off the chain and use it as a real wallet.
2. Back Me Up Mobile Charger, The Bay - $30.00: I have a portable battery of my own, and they're absolutely great and super handy when your phone dies. I love the cute pattern on this one.
3. Pink Thermal Sleep Shirt - $32.00: Sleep shirts are a great gift idea, and there are a ton of gift sets at PINK to choose from! Sleep shirts are more flexible in terms of fit, and a great option if you're unsure about sizing.
4. Tarte "Park Ave Princess" Palette, Sephora - $41.00: I've had my eye on this palette for quite some time, and I think it would make an amazing gift. Sephora has a ton of value sets to choose from for the holidays.
5. Pink Ukulele, Amazon - $36.00: I've been a Ukulele enthusiast for quite some time, and my friend (and fellow ukulele lover) Zoe suggested that they would also make a really nice present! I love the soft pink of this one, and they're easy to find online. (I found this one on amazon)
6. Furry Cover & Hot Water Bottle, Indigo - $29.50: Hot Water bottles are such a nice and comfy bed time accessory to have. Indigo has an awesome gift selection this year, and also came back with these fun hot water bottle covers.
7. Furry Pom Pom Michael Kors - $38.00: A super fun add on to a handbag! A luxe touch for any fashionista.
8. Mokara Voluspa Candle, Indigo - $30.00: This is a returning fave to the gift guide because I LOVE THIS CANDLE. It's a bit of a luxury which is why it makes an amazing gift, plus, the container is gorgeous so it doubles as home decor.

Love always, Rachel

My New Mid-Length Haircut (The Perfect Lazy Girl Hairstyle)!

Friday, December 5, 2014

Hi everyone! I posted my new haircut on Instagram already, but I thought I'd go a little more in depth about it for those who want to know more! I'm generally a pretty indecisive person, and I thought I would never go shorter (like I did circa 2011), but I've recently became obsessed with this midi-length hair. Usually it would be difficult for me to part with my long hair, but after all that it has gone through, it was time for a change. I previously bleached my hair and had very, very light brown hair throughout the summer. Although I liked the look, it was hard to maintain and I couldn't stand my roots. I'm a pretty low maintenance kinda gal when it comes to hair and beauty; I like to keep it simple. The upkeep of lighter hair just was not for me.

My hair when it was super light! (September 2014)
A couple of months ago, I dyed my hair back to black using a box dye, but it has faded significantly and actually toned out my hair a lot. Currently, it's a medium brown that I'm quite happy with. Before I cut it, I also had some blonde throughout my hair and towards my ends.

Inspirations! (via Pinterest)

I posted a collage of a few hair inspiration photos I took to the hairdresser. I wanted long layers and more movement in my hair. When it was longer, it was super heavy and really dry towards the ends because of all the bleaching. I wanted a style that was easy to maintain, and cut off my dry ends.

I went to James Brett Coiffure (downtown Kingston) on Princess Street! I went to Brandy, and she was great, I think she nailed it! My hair feels so much lighter, and I have a feeling this is going to be the perfect lazy girl hairstyle.

Once I figure out my new haircare routine, I'll definitely make a video!

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2014: $20 & Under!

Hi everyone! I'm super excited to bring back my second annual holiday gift guide! Starting with the small stuff... gifts under 20 dollars! I tried my best not to overlap with gifts from last year, but there are always staples that make great gifts every year! For a 20 dollar budget, I would try to find small little "luxuries"; gifts that people would not normally buy themselves, but would find luxurious and fun! I found great gift ideas at Indigo, and Target. They have great lower price points and are always well stocked.

Without further ado, here is my 20 dollar gift guide for this Christmas season!

1. Kiehl's Creme de Corps 75 ml Superb all over Body Moisturizer, $12.50 - Kiehl's: Kiehl's has a bunch of travel sized products that make great gifts! The scent of this moisturizer is amazing, and buying a small size makes a great stocking stuffer, and a great sample size of the product without actually committing to a larger size.

2. "Wake Up and Be Awesome" Travel Tumbler, $12.00 - Indigo: Travel mugs are great gifts for all! I love the motivational sayings (this one in particular goes great with your morning coffee), I think they add a cute and personal touch.

3. Olympic Mittens, $10.00 - The Bay: These Canadian staples make awesome gifts for anyone! They're inexpensive and shockingly super warm. The Bay comes out with a different style of these mittens each year, and they're sure to be super cozy.

4. Knee-high Socks, $12.95 - Victoria's Secret PINK: Socks are a great stocking stuffer, and make a cute gift for someone that you're unsure about what size they might wear in other clothing, because they're pretty much going to fit any sized feet. PINK and Forever 21 carry some cute, vibrant socks that come in a variety of colours.

5. The Nudes Palette, $9.99 - Target: This palette is the less expensive (and dare I say, better?!) version of Urban Decay's naked palette. Grab one for yourself and a loved one, before they sell out! There are a ton of neutral colours that are great for everyday makeup, for any type of complexion.

6. #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, $19.44 - Indigo: This book is on my wishlist! I have been a fan of Sophia Amoruso for years, and she is one of my role models in the industry. I can't wait to get my hands on this book. Great for any aspiring Girl Bosses!

7. Textured Pom Pom Hat (shown in Charcoal), $19.50 - Indigo: Beanies look great on everyone, and in a neutral colour (such as grey), they compliment a bunch of hair colours. The Pom Pom adds a cute festive touch too!

That wraps up my $20 and under gift guide! Be sure to check out for my other gift guides that I'll be posting throughout the next couple of weeks! I found all these gifts online, and can definitely be ordered directly from the brand websites.

Love Always, Rachel

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Hi everyone! I'm super excited to announce the launch of my mini flannel line, under my name "Rachel Wong"! They're vintage flannels (so they're all one of a kind!) with cute sayings on them! Ever since my first designing venture a couple years ago, I've been wanting to design wearable, casual pieces for the everyday gal.

We had a fun small photoshoot featuring the flannels. I love styling them with plain white tees, beanies and jeans for fall and winter. They're oversized, vintage, and wash easy! I love throwing large flannels around my waist for a bit more coverage.

"Here Comes Trouble" and "Need More Sleep" Vintage Flannels, $38.00 each
Models: Julie Coles & Meghan Wood

They'll be launched and sold at the Vogue Charity Fashion Show's "Favourite Things" Pop-up Shop on November 27 and 28 from 10am - 6pm! I have very limited stock so come by before they sell out!

Little Black Dress X American Apparel!

Thursday, November 13, 2014

If you know me, I wear ALOT of black. "All black everything" is probably my life motto when it comes to clothing. Dressing up is no different! Last weekend, I had the awesome (but stressful) chance to go to Sci Formal with my boyfriend and his graduating class. I opted for black, of course.

With WaterAid's Little Black Dress event this weekend (Friday, November 14 at Stages Night club) in Kingston, American Apparel is the go-to place to get your LBD, they have tons of form fitting and flouncy dresses last minute. November 13 and 14 you can purchase your LBD tickets and get 15% off of your lil' black dress at AA on Princess Street (Kingston Exclusive)! Take a look at a few of my faves from yours truly:

When it comes to the classic LBD, I try to find ones that are both flattering and different than your typical strappy-and-short number. I love experimenting with both rounded and high necklines, or even playing around with textures like velvet.

Check out AA for your perfect LBD November 13 and 14!

The Cutest iPhone & Desktop Backgrounds! (Design Love Fest's "dress your tech" !)

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

Hi everyone! I figured I might as well share this because I'm actually in love with every single background download this blogger has made. I was on Pinterest trying to find a cute background for my desktop, and I stumbled upon DesignLoveFest. Her stuff is SO cute and she has tons of free downloads on her site, especially under the section "Dress Your Tech!". Her site is my go-to  to snazz up all my devices, and I wanted to spread the love. has both iPhone and Desktop backgrounds, she posts quite regularly so I'm always checking back and saving them.  I even think a few would look amazing as prints, if you go to staples and print them on nice paper and frame them, they'd be a great addition to a gallery wall.

I've been changing my desktop screen on the reg because I really can't make up my mind. Currently, my desktop background is the pretty flower one that says "stay wild". Love!

Outfits for Day 4 & 5 of WMCFW (Toronto Fashion Week) + Get Ready With Me!

Saturday, October 25, 2014

Hi everyone! I had the pleasure to attend World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto this year as part of the Media Industry, where I was able to blog all about the shows! This was my first time attending, and it was nothing like I've done before! Here are a few of the outfits I wore for the days that I attended (I went to days 4 & 5)!

It's funny that I pushed the notion of "comfort" so much during fashion week, I was nervous to wear heels because I would be running around all day, plus I have a 40 minute bus commute downtown, where I would never last in heels. Instead, I opted for stylish riding boots and my trusty Nikes. I also wore a ton of black (as per usual, haha). I played around with textures (like fur & leather), and that's how I added some interest to my outfits. I also had to bring out my black floppy hat, it honestly just makes me feel fancy (hehe).

 DAY 4

Jacket - Hugo Boss
Turtle Neck - Club Monaco
Skirt - Forever 21
Runners - Nike
Bag - Zadig and Voltaire

DAY 5

Jacket- Mendocino
Shirt - My brothers! (haha)
Leather Leggings - Aritzia
Riding Boots - Hugo Boss
Hat - H&M
Purse - Michael Kors Selma Bag

I will definitely be doing a post on the recap of the shows, plus some of the other video footage that I vlogged (so keep a lookout for that!)! Check out my video of how I got ready for fashion week! (Hair, makeup & outfit!)

Keep a lookout for more of my posts for WMCFW! There is a ton more to come!

Easy Hair Curling Tutorial! (Using a curling wand!)

Friday, October 24, 2014

Hi everyone! Alot of people have requested for me to do an easy curling tutorial, so I decided to make a tutorial on how I curl my hair for everyday wear! I love curling my hair, and like to use the curling iron "wand style" (aka without using a clamp). You can check out my vid below!

Love Always, Rachel

PS. I'm currently attending World Master Card Fashion Week (aka Toronto Fashion Week!), and have a media pass! I'll definitely be blogging about it in the next few days! Been vlogging non-stop! Here's a sneakpeek!

OOTD: Campus Fall Looks with the Sister!

Monday, October 20, 2014

Hi everyone! I'm back with another outfit post today. About a week ago, Syd & I were on campus for a small project, and because I'm so excited about this new camera I have, we decided to do a bit of street style. Since it's midterm season, it's been getting harder to style my outfits differently each day, and I find myself wearing the same thing all the time. Although I do love fashion, I unapologetically wear leggings as pants all the time (It's comfy - I'm a college student leave me alone!). However, when I'm feeling fancy, I like to bring out this leather Wilfred FREE pair I have from Aritzia. They're amazing quality and are much more "PANTS" like so I feel a lot more put together. I like to pair them with an oversized sweater and a jacket. I recently also bought this jacket from Forever 21, after seeing Kim & North (don't judge me) sport them.

Bomber Jacket - Forever 21
Sweater - H&M
Leather Leggings - Aritzia
Sneakers - All Saints

Also, how AMAZING are these sneakers from All Saints? They remind me of Alexander Wang. I borrowed them from my sister for the day.

Jacket - Forever 21
Black Top - Forever 21
Jeans - Hollister Co.
Flannel - Urban Outfitters
Sneakers - Converse
Scarf - Forever 21

Sydney & I love to layer, which she did much better than me today. I love the mix of colours and textures, it's nice to have a look that's not so monochromatic.

LOCO FOR HOCO: What to Wear for your College Homecoming

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Hi guys!! I'm super excited for this weekend, as it's my school's (Queen's University) homecoming! I'm very lucky that my school has an awesome selection Varsity wear (as you can see above, Shima & I have our tricolour moments), and one of my fave parts of homecoming is putting together a super cute-yet-spirited outfit. But with everything in my closet being black, it's kind of hard for me to head straight into tam and coverall mode.

For me, my go-to homecoming outfit usually consists of a pair of jean shorts, a fun pair of long socks in my school colours, and the signature Queen's rugby jersey.  I also find it fun to add scrunchies in my hair to make the look a little more preppy. When trying to have school spirit in your outfit, you don't always have to go ALL out, you can look just as cute and collegiate by using smaller school-coloured accessories, like headbands and scrunchies (check out the Radley bracelets in Tricolour outlet, they're so cute!). Here is a look I put together for HOCO:

And for all my fellow Queen's students still getting their homecoming outfits together, American Apparel Kingston is having a homecoming sale TODAY and TOMORROW! Take 15% off any purchase of 60 dollars or more!

The best part of getting tri-coloured basics is that you can wear them again even after the weekend is over, and AA is also an awesome place to get small finishing HOCO touches like knee high socks and scrunchies.

Let me know what you'll be sporting for HOCO in the comments!

Outfit of the Day: Plaid Dress & Knit Jumper

Friday, October 3, 2014

Hi everyone! I'm coming at y'all with another outfit of the day! I will definitely have more variety in my posts soon, I'm just trying to figure out my new video line up and some DIY's!

After reading this Buzzfeed list about my old fave, Gossip Girl, it made me inspired to create a throwback Gossip Girl inspired (by season 1= the best) outfit!

I put an old plaid dress I've had since high school with a black knit sweater on top. It gave a preppy look without looking overly costume-school-girl like or stuffy. I debated also wearing thigh high black socks, but decided not to because the weather was nice and I felt that it would be too "school girl" with the plaid. To make the look feel more fall-time, I did add a pair of taller black ankle boots. To finish the look, I finally brought out my beloved black floppy hat and quirky round sunglasses.

Hat- H&M
Sweater - H&M
Plaid Dress - Forever 21
Boots - Aldo
Sunglasses - Forever 21

After writing the details for this outfit post, I realized that my outfit was super affordable, and brought together without super expensive pieces. I love going to places like H&M and Forever 21 for trendier items for the season.

Love Always,

Outfit of the Day: Floral Romper

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share a quick blog post on this lovely romper that I stole from my sister (we now go to the same college and as a result, my wardrobe has "doubled".  I love the flared sleeves on this! My sister ordered it online from Urban Outfitters, and opted to go up a size because rompers generally size pretty small (great tip if you have a longer rise/are taller).

I have always loved rompers, and have even dedicated a few blog posts to one I used to wear all the time in high school! I'm slowly getting back into them. They're just an effortless way to look put together and also be super comfy. The ones with sleeves can easily be transitioned into the fall time too, I tried to make this one work for the chillier weather by pairing it with my fave brown ankle boots.

Romper - Urban Outfitters
Boots - Hibou

Also, my hair looks super brassy in these photos - I'm on the search for a perfect toning shampoo to get rid of this yellow tinge! Have any suggestions? Leave them below!

Reunited and it Feels so Good! My domain has returned!

Sunday, September 28, 2014

Hi everyone! I'm super thrilled to tell you all after a long awaited non-eventful battle, I finally have my domain back and running. I'm really happy that I no longer have the "blogspot" at the end of my blog address, and I'm finally feeling professional again. Back in 2012/2013 was the last time I had, and now it's returned! I lost along the way... and had to find a way to get it back. But I did! YAY! The best option for me was to wait a year before I could get my domain for a reasonable price, and I'm glad a waited and didn't settle for another address ( just wasn't going to cut it).

Anyways, feel free to browse my blog at it's OG address, I'm so glad to have my blog back and running. Now that I'm past some poor blogger/vlogger choices, I feel like I have a fresh start.

Love Always,

Outfit of the Day: Weekend Outfits

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Hi everyone! Long time no blog! I decided to start up my outfit of the day posts this weekend, and I'm lucky that the weather has been agreeing as well! It's been beautiful in Kingston and I've definitely been taking advantage of the warmer weather. Here's what I wore friday and saturday!

My roche runs have been an aboslute godsend this summer and fall, they're my go-to pair of shoes as of lately. I love how comfortable (but also fashion forward) they are. I'm not athletically inclined - but why not dress the part once in a while? I love pairing them with simple t-shirt dresses like this one, they give the look a sports luxe feel (a trend that I'm still in love with). They were an absolute steal too because (thanks to my small feet) I was able to purchase them from the BOYS (children's) section at foot locker and that saved me a pretty penny. Finally to tie the whole look together... a tie around! It's still a must have for me! I know some people are "over it", but I can't resist. I've been obsessed with my boyfriend's flannel for a year now and I've pretty much claimed it as mine.

Today was a pretty relaxed day, so I decided to wear a few staple pieces from my wardrobe. I love wearing a simple white t-shirt, and this one even has slits on the sides that give it a more interesting look. I also am in LOVE with these Brandy Melville Vodi shorts - they are SO comfortable and I practically lived in them when I worked there. They're ultra soft and the pretty ruffled edge makes them look a little less bummy.  I lived in fabric shorts all summer, they're really breathable and super affordable (I think I got mine for around 16 dollars). I also matched my look with my snakeskin print Vans slip ons, which I feel make the outfit more interesting and forward. Then of course, my staples - my go-to Zadig & Voltaire purse and my flash aviator Ray-Bans. Altogether, it's a super comfortable outfit without a pair of sweatpants in sight.

It's been a struggle to keep up with the blogosphere while also trying to catch up in school! Between all the stuff I have to do, I'm swamped! I'm currently trying to figure out how to schedule everything in, and hopefully that means regular posts and videos are returning soon. How was everyone's first month of school! Tell me below in the comments!

Love Always, Rachel

(P.S. tell me what you think about my new blog theme!)
